Hutousi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The Hutousi Formation was erected by the Yunnan First Regional Geological Survey Team in 1973. The section for the designation is in Hutousi of Yunlong County of Yunnan.
Lithology and Thickness
The Hutousi Formation is represented by gray white and gray yellow massive, moderately thick-bedded and medium- and fine-grained and coarse-grained sandstone, with cupreous (copper-ore-rich) sandstone. It is monomorphic in lithology, light in color, good sorting of clastic materials, high in maturity and common in copper mineralization, which serve as marker for distinguishing it from the overlying and underlying strata. It is 138 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It lies conformably on the underlying Nanxin Fm (or synonym/coeval Mangang Fm).
Upper contact
It is disconformably under the Paleogene Mengyejing Fm. It is in conformable contact with the Upper Cretaceous Mamkuanhe Fm in some parts of the southern area.
Regional extent
The formation occurs in Hutousi of the Yunlong County of west Yunnan. It is monomorphic and persistent in lithology and ranges from 0 to 400 m in thickness. It is a cupreous ore bed.
